CAPPELLO NEWTOWN
About This Spot
Stepping into CAPPELLO NEWTOWN, you’re greeted by a lively yet inviting energy that pulses through its blend of a restaurant, cocktail bar, and dance club. Nestled in the heart of Newtown Junction, it carries the unmistakable hum of Johannesburg’s creative spirit—unpretentious, warm, and buzzing just enough to make you feel part of something vibrant without ever rushing you along.
The atmosphere here strikes a delicate balance. Daytime brings a relaxed, neighborhood spot vibe where the clink of glasses and murmurs of friendly conversation weave easily with the aromas from the kitchen. As twilight deepens, the space transitions naturally, the rhythms picking up to invite patrons to unwind in a more spirited mood. Whether you’re settling in for a casual meal or easing into the night with drinks and dancing, the place feels familiar, a steady backdrop for shared moments and small celebrations.
Food and drink here are crafted without fuss—comforting yet thoughtfully put together to complement the vibe. It’s the kind of place where a well-loved pizza or perfectly sauced chicken wings carry the kind of casual satisfaction that lingers. Pair your meal with one of their cocktail creations or a simple beer, and it becomes clear this isn’t about formality or fuss but rather about enjoying tastes that fit the moment and setting.
Service feels personal and genuinely caring without hovering, embodying the human warmth that often makes or breaks a local favorite. Staff move with easy familiarity, attentive enough to ensure you feel seen, but mostly just part of the rhythm here. This attentiveness gently underscores the relaxed yet connected spirit of CAPPELLO NEWTOWN, making it a spot where both returning friends and new visitors can settle comfortably into their own pace.
For those looking to experience a slice of Johannesburg’s dynamic culture—even if just for a casual meal or a night out—CAPPELLO NEWTOWN offers a sincere, grounded warmth. It invites you in not with grandiosity but with moments: the sharing of food, the clatter of lively conversation, the low hum of music spilling into the night. It feels like a place where you can be yourself, surrounded by the rhythms of the city, and the easy pulse of community.

Had breakfast there, service was good. Had French toast, it was basic especially the bread that was used, it tasted like ordinary store bought bread. The syrup used looked and tasted more like golden syrup than the maple syrup mentioned on the menu. However, they weren't stingy with the bacon. My mom had egg and avo on toast with bacon. She said it tasted nice, but again the bread kinda looked like ordinary store bought bread, but the avo and bacon was sufficient.
